As one of the two million people who watched FOX's Next Great American Band back in October 2007, I became a huge fan of the Virginia rooted trio of string pluckin' brothers who competed on the show. They called themselves The Clark Brothers. They blew me away with each performance and in the end, Adam, Ashley and Austin Clark came out winning the title of THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND. Included with their title, was a recording contract with 19 Entertainment. For two years they proceeded to work on their debut record.

In October of 2009, after changing their musical style and direction from The Clark Brothers... they decided to pay tribute to their Mother by renaming themselves... Sons of Sylvia. Their highly anticipated CD Revelation was finally released April 27, 2010. They are on tour presently, opening for Carrie Underwood until December 19, 2010. This forum is dedicated to posting reviews photos, updates and my own personal experiences from Sons of Sylvia's first tour... Special thanks go out to all those who have contributed to this blog...

Sons of Sylvia Bio

Coming from an enormous family and roots in Rocky Mount, Virginia… Adam, Ashley and Austin Clark have spent most of their lives performing. They refer to their time growing up as… "living on a bus longer, than living in a house". They were taught to play their instruments by ear from their father, at a very young age... Adam on mandolin, Ashley on fiddle, and Austin on Dobro. They travelled the U.S. and Canada with their Preacher parents and eight other musically talented siblings as a family band… performing Gospel and Bluegrass in Tent Revivals and Churches.

Around 2000, six of the eldest brothers started their own band as "The Clark Family Experience" and signed to Curb Records. They debuted on the Country music scene that year with the release of their hit single "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch". It became the thirteenth highest-selling single in the history of country music at the time. Three more chart singles were released from their self-titled debut album later that year. In 2003, after complications with their label... the brothers decided to split up musically for the first time in their lives, and do their own thing.

During the next couple of years, Ashley left home and went to Los Angeles to write music and meet labels. He moved in with cousin Ryan Tedder, and even played fiddle in his yet undiscovered band... One Republic, for a short time. Looking for work, Ashley scored a small part as a fiddle player in the Johhny Cash autobiography "Walk the Line". He also auditioned for the lead role of "Elvis" in the CBS mini-series. Offered the part, Ashley turned it down to pursue his passion of writing music and preaching the Gospel.

Austin worked as a Real Estate Agent and was the first to make the move to Nashville. Returning once again, to their love of performing, Ashley and later, Adam.. joined him. By 2005, all three were successful in finding work with country gigs such as James Otto, Muzik Mofia, SheDAISY and most notably, Carrie Underwood... who was fresh on the music scene with her win from American Idol. Ashley married during this time and started a family.

In 2007, wanting to work together again and thinking it may be their last chance to do so... Adam, Ashley and Austin followed their heart and took a leap of faith. They called themselves The Clark Brothers and entered The Next Great American Band contest on FOX. Much to their surprise, they came out winning the title, with a recording contract from 19 Entertainment and subsequently signing on with Universal South Records.

For two years, the brothers proceeded to work on their debut record. They wrote over 300 songs and during a journey of personal and musical growth, they evolved as a band. They changed their direction musically, from who they were as The Clark Brothers, and in October of 2009... the guys renamed themselves Sons of Sylvia, respectfully paying homage to their mother.

Their highly anticipated album, REVELATION was finally released April 27 2010, along with their first single “Love Left to Lose”. After an appearance on American Idol the following day, Sons of Sylvia's album rocketed to #1 on the iTunes Pop Chart.

Sons of Sylvia are on tour presently, opening for Carrie Underwood until December 19, 2010.
